EU accepts Elon Musk’s X action plan to improve transparency

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 15, The European Union has accepted an action plan submitted by Elon Musk’s social media platform X to comply with transparency requirements under the EU Digital Services Act.

Last year, X was fined €120 million ($137.2 million) by the EU for failing to meet transparency obligations. In a statement, the European Commission said the approved action plan represents “an important step in enabling researchers, civil society, and the public to gain more transparency into X’s systems, particularly to monitor systemic risks and assess the platform’s broader impact on users and European society.”

The EU emphasized that X has committed to subject the action plan to an external, independent audit to ensure compliance.

The move comes amid growing regulatory scrutiny across Europe, with countries including Norway, France, Turkey, and the UK considering or implementing legislation to limit or restrict social media use among teenagers, inspired by similar measures in Australia.
