BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 1. SpaceX is preparing to hold its first earnings call as a publicly traded company, but many retail investors are focusing on topics ranging from Starship missions to mascots rather than financial performance.
Ahead of Tuesday's results presentation, the company launched an online platform allowing shareholders to submit and vote on questions they want answered during the earnings call, which is expected to feature Elon Musk.
Among the most popular questions were requests for additional footage of Starship's Human Landing System (HLS), which is being developed for NASA's Artemis lunar program, as well as inquiries about when Starship will begin orbital refueling and achieve full recovery of both its booster and upper stage.
Investors also asked whether Asteroid, SpaceX's recently introduced Shiba Inu mascot, could play a larger role in educational and charitable initiatives.
Some submissions were more light-hearted, including a proposal to paint Starship pink and another suggesting that SpaceX sell sponsorships for individual heat shield tiles so supporters could have their names flown into space.
The unusual mix of questions follows SpaceX's decision to allocate roughly 30 percent of its IPO shares to retail investors, one of the largest such allocations in a major U.S. public offering.
While SpaceX shares have fallen by more than half from their post-IPO intraday peak, relatively few highly ranked questions focused on the company's financial outlook. Instead, many investors showed greater interest in future technologies, including the timeline for deploying AI-powered data centers in orbit.
