Japan-linked tankers leave Hormuz after months stranded in the Gulf

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 6. Ten Japan-linked vessels have begun departing the Strait of Hormuz after spending several months stranded in the Persian Gulf following disruptions caused by the US-Israel war on Iran.

The vessels include six oil tankers carrying around 12 million barrels of crude oil, along with two chemical tankers, one vehicle carrier and one container ship. According to shipping data from LSEG, the cargoes were loaded between late February and early March and include crude oil from Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar.

Most of the ships are operated by Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines, which said it would continue to prioritise the safety of its crews, cargo and vessels while navigating through the strategically important waterway.

Separately, South Korean refiner S-Oil confirmed that the VLCC Long Wind, carrying two million barrels of Saudi crude, departed the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday. According to LSEG data, the tanker is expected to arrive in Onsan, South Korea, on July 26.
