BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. US President Donald Trump has suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz the “Trump Strait”, making the proposal in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump linked the proposed name change to his claim that the strategically important waterway is now under US control.
“Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT???” Trump wrote.
The US president also said the strait would be “hotter” than ever before, comparing it with the United States, before signing off the message with his name and presidential title.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime passages and a crucial route for global oil and gas shipments.
Trump’s remarks come amid heightened tensions involving the United States and Iran and increased international attention on security and shipping through the strategic waterway.
