BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. Iran’s Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) has added another 11 ships to its blacklist, barring them from transiting the Strait of Hormuz over what it described as “non-compliance” with its regulations.
The latest decision comes about a week after Tehran blacklisted 45 tankers that Iranian authorities said had violated rules governing navigation through the strategically important waterway.
With the addition of the latest 11 ships, the PGSA now prohibits a total of 56 vessels from transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has also warned shipping companies and vessel operators against cooperating with ships included on the blacklist. According to the PGSA, any vessel found cooperating with a banned ship could itself be added to the list.
The authority said blacklisted vessels seeking to have the restrictions lifted must submit a formal application explaining and justifying their request for removal.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important maritime passages, particularly for international oil and gas shipments, making restrictions on vessel movements a significant issue for global shipping and energy markets.
