BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 16. Qatar has expressed hope that the agreement between Iran and the United States will help restore the flow of liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments to global markets by improving maritime conditions in the Strait of Hormuz.
TurkicWorld reports that Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said Doha expects the memorandum of understanding to support the reopening of safe navigation routes in the strategic waterway, allowing continued energy exports to countries in need.
“We hope the MoU will help open the navigation in Hormuz so that Qatar can continue supplying LNG,” he told a press briefing.
Qatar, one of the world’s leading LNG exporters, has been closely involved in diplomatic mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran. Al-Ansari confirmed that Qatar will also be represented at the formal signing ceremony scheduled to take place in Geneva later this week.
Doha has played a central role in facilitating indirect negotiations that led to the agreement, positioning itself as a key regional mediator in efforts to reduce tensions and stabilize energy and maritime routes in the Gulf.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global chokepoint for energy exports, particularly oil and LNG shipments, making its security a priority for both regional and international stakeholders.
