Saudi Arabia condemns Iranian attack on tanker in Strait of Hormuz

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 2. Saudi Arabia has condemned an attack by Iran on a Saudi oil tanker while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the incident resulted in fatalities among the tanker’s crew. Saudi Arabia’s national shipping company Bahri had earlier reported that two Filipino crew members were killed aboard the oil tanker SIDR while it was sailing through the strategically important waterway two days earlier.

Bahri said it remains in continuous contact with the stricken vessel and is monitoring the situation. The incident has further heightened concerns over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for the transportation of oil and other energy resources.

The attack comes amid heightened regional tensions and raises additional concerns about the safety of commercial shipping and the potential impact of disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz on global energy markets.
