BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 4. Iran’s new supreme leader is believed to support a more assertive foreign policy compared to his late father, according to Ali Akbar Dareini, a researcher at the Center for Strategic Studies in Tehran.
Dareini said Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei is seen as the “architect of controlling the Strait of Hormuz and obtaining fees in return for services” during what he described as a 60-day period. He added that the new leadership approach reflects a more realist stance in foreign policy compared to his predecessor.
He also noted that Mojtaba Khamenei’s policies should be understood in the context of Iran’s current internal and external challenges, including economic pressures. According to him, Iran’s top priority remains preserving political independence and territorial integrity, while also addressing domestic concerns such as inflation, public dissatisfaction, and corruption.
