BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 3. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office says five Lebanese citizens detained in southern Lebanon have been released after authorities determined that they had no links to armed groups.
According to the prime minister’s office, the five Lebanese nationals had been detained in southern Lebanon before an assessment concluded that they were not affiliated with militant organisations.
Netanyahu’s office said the decision to release them came amid negotiations with Lebanon concerning efforts to recover the remains of Jewish community leaders who were killed in the country during the 1980s.
The statement indicates that discussions between Israel and Lebanon are continuing over the recovery and return of the remains.
