Iran US Lebanon Donald Trump Diplomacy negotiations

Trump threats during talks may have given Iran ‘extra leverage’, analyst says

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 22. A political analysis suggests that US President Donald Trump may have unintentionally strengthened Iran’s negotiating position during recent US-Iran talks.

According to the commentary, while diplomacy is reportedly back on track, the most significant uncertainty remains the situation in Lebanon. However, the establishment of a “high committee” is said to have created a structured negotiation process between the two sides.

TurkicWorld reports that the analyst noted that both Washington and Tehran entered the talks with competing priorities: the United States is seeking to address issues such as Iran’s ballistic missile program and regional influence, while Iran has shown reluctance to discuss those topics.

The report also highlighted tensions during the negotiations, including Iran’s absence from initial media appearances and its refusal to participate in what it considered a “photo opportunity.” At one stage, following a social media post by Trump, Iranian representatives reportedly skipped a later session.

Despite this, the analysis argues that Trump’s confrontational messaging may have inadvertently strengthened Iran’s position, as the temporary withdrawal from talks could have provided Tehran with additional leverage in the negotiation process.
