BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 5. Hezbollah has condemned what it described as an escalating Israeli campaign in southern Lebanon, accusing the international community of maintaining “complete silence” and the United States of “blatant complicity”.
In a statement, Hezbollah said the release of several Lebanese prisoners held by Israel, while important, could not be used to overlook continued Israeli attacks, occupation and killings in Lebanon.
“The release of some Lebanese prisoners, however important, cannot serve as a cover for overlooking the continued aggression, occupation, and killing,” the group said.
The statement referred to the transfer of four Lebanese prisoners detained in Israel to the International Committee of the Red Cross on Friday.
Hezbollah also called on the Lebanese government to abandon what it described as “fruitless direct negotiations” with Israel and the existing framework agreement.
The group argued that continuing along the current path had failed to protect Lebanon and its population.
Dozens of Lebanese citizens, including civilians, are believed to remain in Israeli detention centres.
