Trump criticises scale of Israeli strikes in Lebanon, calls for restraint

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 16. US President Donald Trump has expressed concern over the intensity of Israeli military operations in Lebanon, saying that too many civilians are being killed in the ongoing conflict involving Hezbollah.

TurkicWorld reports that Trump said Israel has been engaged in fighting Hezbollah for “too long” and warned that the human cost has become excessive. He argued that military operations should avoid large-scale destruction when targeting specific individuals.

“You don’t have to knock down an apartment house every time you’re looking for somebody because there’s a lot of people in those apartment houses – and they’re not all Hezbollah,” Trump said.

He also suggested a controversial alternative approach, stating that he had proposed allowing Syria to handle Hezbollah instead of direct Israeli action, claiming it might be more effective in dealing with the group.

The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions involving Israel, Lebanon and Iran-linked negotiations, as international actors continue to push for de-escalation alongside ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Trump’s comments add to a series of statements in which he has both defended Israel’s security concerns and simultaneously urged restraint in its military operations in Lebanon.
