Hezbollah drone attacks and civilian deaths fuel anger in Lebanon and Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8. Hezbollah’s drone attacks on Israeli forces have contributed to Israel’s decision to launch strikes on Beirut, triggering the latest escalation that has coincided with renewed tensions involving Iran, according to security and policy analyst Wolfgang Pusztai.

TurkicWorld reports that Pusztai noted that approximately 30 Israeli soldiers have reportedly been killed in drone attacks since the ceasefire took effect in April.

“With regard to Lebanon, we need to keep in mind that since the beginning of the ceasefire in April about 30 Israeli soldiers were killed by drone strikes,” he said.

According to the analyst, Israel responded by increasing its military operations deeper inside Lebanon. However, he argued that Israeli forces were not sufficiently precise in selecting targets, resulting in significant civilian casualties.

“The consequence for Israel was to push further into Lebanon, but it seems the Israelis were not very precise with regard to selecting their targets as there is also a high amount of civilian casualties,” Pusztai stated.

He added that civilian deaths caused by Israeli strikes have sparked widespread outrage not only in Lebanon and Iran but also across the international community.
