BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 11. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israeli forces have destroyed Hezbollah’s underground Ali Al-Taher facility in southern Lebanon, near Nabatieh.
Netanyahu said the facility was located within what Israel describes as a security buffer zone and was destroyed following instructions from him and Defence Minister Israel Katz.
The Israeli army described the site as strategic infrastructure that had been developed over two decades and said it contained large quantities of weapons allegedly funded by Iran.
Netanyahu and Katz claimed the underground infrastructure and headquarters were intended to support operations against northern Israel, including surveillance and attacks targeting the areas around Metula and Kiryat Shmona.
The Israeli officials did not provide evidence publicly to support those claims.
Netanyahu and Katz said the Israeli army had completed the organisation of what they called the security zone in southern Lebanon.
Following the destruction of the facility, Israeli forces are preparing defensive measures and seeking to prevent Hezbollah from returning to the area, they said.
