Uzbekistan Germany memorandum of understanding (MOU)

Uzbekistan, German GIZ sign MoU on groundwater co-op

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 23. Uzbekistan's Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation, TurkicWorld reports.

The document was signed during a meeting between Uzbekistan's first Deputy Minister of Mining Industry and Geology, Omonullo Nasritdinkhodjaev, with the head of the GIZ, Joachim Fritz, and the head of the Green Central Asia Program, Caroline Milow.

The memorandum aims to establish particular projects in the field of groundwater in the future and bring cooperation to a new level.

In addition, the sides noted that in recent years Uzbekistan has implemented many projects aimed at rational use of water resources, maintenance of the state water cadastre, development of a unified Central Asian information system on groundwater, and adaptation to climate change in the field of water resources protection.

Meanwhile, trade turnover volume between Uzbekistan and Germany amounted to $679.4 million from January through August 2024. This figure shows a 4.2 percent decline compared to the same period last year ($708.3 million in January-August 2023).
