BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 26. The Chairman of the Cabinet of the Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov and Sachiko Imoto, Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), have discussed key projects in Kyrgyzstan requiring substantial financial investment, TurkicWorld reports.
According to the cabinet, during the meeting, Japarov highlighted several significant initiatives, including the construction of the Kambarata-1 hydropower plant, which has a capacity of 1,860 megawatts and an annual energy output of 5.6 billion kilowatt hours. The project is estimated to require around $5 billion.
The chairman also emphasized the importance of developing water supply and sewage systems in Kyrgyzstan, which includes building irrigation channels and providing social housing through the state mortgage company.
Japarov reiterated the government's commitment to accelerating the country's socio-economic development, aiming to transition from an export-based model to an industrial and innovative economy. He noted that over the past three years, the economy has grown by an average of 7 percent, and the consolidated state budget has more than doubled.
"We are open to new ideas and solutions that will help us achieve sustainable development and prosperity for our country," Japarov concluded.
JICA is the biggest bilateral development aid organization in the world, with an annual operating budget of over $15 billion. JICA plays a significant role as official development assistance for Japan.
JICA serves as Japan's ODA's "one-stop shop," offering a variety of services such as grants, financing and investment, volunteers, technical cooperation, and private sector partnerships. As one of the world's largest bilateral aid agencies, JICA operates in more than 150 countries and regions and has approximately 90 overseas offices.
