Iran United States Lebanon IOM displaced people southern Lebanon ceasefire

More than 640,000 displaced Lebanese have returned home - IOM

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 3. More than 640,000 internally displaced people in Lebanon have returned to their homes since last month's agreement between the United States and Iran, which included a ceasefire in Lebanon, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The organization said that around 500,000 people remain displaced, based on data collected in coordination with Lebanese authorities since June 22.

Despite the large-scale returns, many families remain unable to go back to their communities because of extensive destruction in towns and villages near Lebanon's southern border.

Israeli forces continue to maintain a presence inside a security zone extending approximately 10 kilometres into southern Lebanon despite the ceasefire, limiting access to several affected areas.

The IOM said the humanitarian situation remains challenging, with reconstruction and the safe return of displaced residents continuing to be major priorities.
