BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 26. Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has stated that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz cannot be guaranteed for vessels operating under what he described as "ambiguous arrangements, parallel routes, or decision-making outside of Iran's considerations as the coastal state."
TurkicWorld reports that iIn a statement published on X, Gharibabadi said that any credible framework governing navigation through the strategic waterway must be coordinated with Iran and comply with paragraph five of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
He warned that failure to meet these conditions could result in the suspension of the designated parallel maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the 14-point MoU between the United States and Iran, Tehran is expected to hold consultations with the Sultanate of Oman to determine the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz, in coordination with other Persian Gulf littoral states and in accordance with international law and the sovereign rights of coastal states.
