IRGC warns oil tankers in Strait of Hormuz, three vessels turn back

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 26. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has warned at least three foreign oil tankers attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz without what Tehran described as the necessary authorisation, Iranian state television reported.

TurkicWorld reports that according to the report, the vessels changed course and turned back after receiving warnings from IRGC naval forces. Iranian authorities have repeatedly stated that ships passing through the strategic waterway must comply with Iran’s security directives.

The development comes a day after a Singapore-flagged oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz. Following the incident, the United Nations suspended its planned mission to rescue approximately 11,000 sailors operating in the area.

Although Tehran has not claimed responsibility for the attack on the Singaporean vessel, Iranian officials have continued issuing warnings against unauthorised navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, citing security concerns.
