BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 23. Ali Akbar Dareini of the Center for Strategic Studies says the United States holds significant influence over Israel but remains uncertain whether it will use it to enforce compliance with the US–Iran memorandum of understanding.
TurkicWorld reports that Dareini claimed that Washington has committed—on behalf of both itself and Israel—to ending military operations in Iran and Lebanon under the framework of the agreement. He argued that continued Israeli strikes indicate a failure by the US to uphold those commitments.
He also said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “extremely unhappy” with the interim US–Iran understanding, suggesting it creates political tension between Washington and Jerusalem.
According to Dareini, US President Donald Trump has “tremendous leverage” to influence Israeli policy, but the key question is whether he has the political will to restrain Netanyahu.
He added that Netanyahu may be operating on the assumption that continued strikes in Lebanon could provoke retaliation and potentially draw the US back into a wider regional escalation.
The comments reflect ongoing competing narratives around the fragile diplomatic process and continuing violence in Lebanon and the wider region.
