US companies benefit from Strait of Hormuz disruptions, Rosneft chief says

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 6. US oil companies have emerged as the main beneficiaries of recent disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, gaining noncompetitive advantages and opportunities to sell supplies at higher prices, according to Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin.

TurkicWorld reports that speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Sechin said US hydrocarbon exports are “breaking all records.” Citing estimates by Norwegian consultancy Rystad Energy, he added that US oil and gas firms could earn more than $60 billion in additional profit in 2026 if oil prices remain around $100 per barrel. Additional tax revenues from the sector could reach approximately $80 billion, Sechin noted.

Sechin also highlighted that China is better prepared than other countries for potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz due to its balanced approach to energy security and long-term planning. China’s investments in renewable energy and low-cost transportation infrastructure, including electric vehicles, buses, gas-powered trucks, metro systems, electric trains and taxis, provide consumers with alternatives that enhance resilience.

The recent regional tensions escalated following US and Israeli strikes on Iran in February, triggering a cycle of retaliatory attacks. Iran launched assaults on Israel, targeted countries hosting US military bases, and disrupted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s key energy transit corridors. A ceasefire eventually took hold, although diplomatic efforts for a broader settlement continue.
