BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25. Experts note cautious progress in the US-Iran talks, though a breakthrough remains uncertain.
TurkicWorld reports that Andrea Dessi, assistant professor of international relations and global politics at the American University of Rome, described the negotiations between the United States and Iran as “very fluid” and not yet close to a definitive agreement.
“But at the same time, I think there’s some optimism in the sense that there is movement, there is some softening of positions both on the side of Iran. But also with regards to the United States side”.
He added that there is movement away from long-standing “red lines” previously emphasized by the US, including issues regarding ballistic missiles and proxies, with a greater focus on attempting to separate and address issues individually.
Despite these developments, Dessi cautioned that “we are by no means out of the woods yet” and stressed the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts. “We need to keep focus and hope that the backchannels and the mediators are continuing to push in the correct direction,” he said.
