BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 17. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has rejected US President Donald Trump’s claim that his administration has established a direct backchannel for talks with the Iranian military organisation.
IRGC spokesperson Brigadier General Hossein Mohammadi told Iran’s state-run Tasnim news agency on Monday that there were no talks between IRGC officials and US representatives.
“There are no talks between IRGC officials and Americans,” Mohammadi said.
He dismissed Trump’s claim as false, accusing the US president of making statements that he described as the product of delusion and desperation over the course of the war.
Mohammadi said the IRGC represents what he described as the power and position of the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic and carries its message on the battlefield.
He also said there were currently no negotiations with the United States in this area, citing what Tehran considers repeated US violations of agreements and broken promises.
“Currently, no talks are taking place with the Americans in this area either, due to broken promises and the dark experiences of repeated and constant violations of agreements by the United States,” he said.
The statement directly contradicts Trump’s earlier claim that his administration had established a direct communication channel with the IRGC. The conflicting statements highlight the deep mistrust between Washington and Tehran and cast further uncertainty over the possibility of behind-the-scenes diplomatic contacts.
