BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 5. Petrol prices in the United States are expected to surpass $4 per gallon over the Labor Day weekend as the ongoing war involving Iran continues to push up energy costs.
According to GasBuddy data, the national average could reach $4.03 per gallon on Labor Day, exceeding the previous record of $3.83 set in 2012.
Labor Day, observed on Monday, is a federal holiday in the United States that celebrates the country’s labor movement and marks one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
The national average petrol price stood at around $4.13 per gallon on Thursday, nearly $1 higher than the average recorded during the same period last year, according to GasBuddy.
Analysts told Reuters that the $4-per-gallon level represents a significant “pain point” for American consumers, particularly as millions of people travel during the holiday weekend.
Rising energy costs have become an increasingly important concern for the administration of US President Donald Trump as the conflict between the United States and Iran enters its seventh month.
Higher fuel prices could add to pressure on American households and create an additional economic challenge for the administration ahead of the November midterm elections.
