BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 13. The United States made a “strategic mistake” by assuming Iran would collapse following the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, a senior commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said.
Brigadier General Yadollah Javani, the IRGC’s deputy for political affairs, said Washington had misjudged Iran’s stability and failed to account for “the realities of Iranian society”.
According to the semi-official Fars news agency, Javani said Washington had maintained pressure on Tehran since before Donald Trump’s presidency, but those efforts had failed because of Iran’s “steadfastness and firm response”.
