Qatar says Iran-Oman talks on Strait of Hormuz reach advanced stage

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 11. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari says negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz have reached an advanced stage.

Speaking about the talks, al-Ansari said the negotiations had entered a critical phase, adding that Doha supports all diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region.

He said Qatar, acting as a mediator, wants the strategic waterway to be reopened as soon as possible to ensure the continuation of maritime traffic.

“As mediators, we want the Strait of Hormuz reopened as soon as possible,” al-Ansari said.

The talks between Tehran and Muscat are focused on arrangements for safe navigation through the strait, a key global energy route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman.
