BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. Pakistan is working to bring the United States and Iran back to the negotiating table as part of efforts to preserve the ceasefire process and resolve disputes over the Strait of Hormuz, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said.
Speaking at a press conference, Andrabi said Islamabad was making efforts to “bring the two parties to the negotiating table” and prevent actions that could undermine the peace process.
The comments come as efforts continue to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at restoring the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran while addressing disagreements over navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Andrabi said Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister held talks on August 10 with officials from Iran, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
He added that Pakistani and Iranian foreign ministers exchanged views on efforts to promote peace and stability.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is also visiting Tehran, providing another opportunity to discuss bilateral relations and regional security issues, Andrabi said.
The spokesperson also commented on the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, describing it as part of Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen its strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia.
