Iran signals willingness to “Run the clock out” amid ongoing tensions

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25. Iran appears determined to maintain its position as diplomatic efforts continue, with analysts highlighting Tehran’s strategy to wait for favorable conditions.

TurkicWorld reports that Ross Harrison, a senior fellow and book series editor at the Middle East Institute, “Iranians are determined to hold on until this conflict ends where they believe they have some kind of economic lifeline going forward.”

Harrison explained that for Iran, the situation is not only about time but also about survival. “It’s about the ability to come out of this conflict having resurrected some form of deterrence,” he said. He emphasized that this deterrence differs from previous measures, which relied largely on Iran’s proxies for indirect influence.

The remarks follow recent statements by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, who indicated that both sides have reached a framework but did not suggest that a formal deal is imminent.

“Iran is willing to run the clock out, and they’re relying on the fact that the clock is ticking faster for the United States,” Harrison added, underlining Tehran’s strategic patience in the negotiations.
