BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has claimed that Tehran has received “numerous messages” from neighbouring countries about establishing new regional security arrangements and expanding economic cooperation. His remarks were also reported by regional media on Saturday.
In a post on X, Ghalibaf argued that US policies had endangered Washington’s own regional allies by prioritising Israel’s interests. He claimed those countries had briefly faced threats serious enough to make them question their own security.
The Iranian parliament speaker presented growing regional interest in new security arrangements as evidence that Middle Eastern countries should rely less on external powers.
Ghalibaf said a locally developed and independent regional order would be better positioned to deliver lasting peace and security. His remarks echo an argument he made in June that Middle Eastern security should be provided by the countries of the region themselves.
Ghalibaf did not publicly identify the neighbouring countries that he said had contacted Tehran or provide details about the proposed security arrangements.
The comments come amid heightened debate over the future regional security architecture and Iran’s efforts to promote greater economic and security cooperation with neighbouring states.
