BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12. China has offered to play a mediating role between the United States and Iran as the conflict continues to destabilise the Middle East.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said Beijing was ready to work with fellow BRICS members to contribute to peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
“The war has caused serious losses to people across the region and does not serve the common interests of the international community,” Xi told China’s official Xinhua news agency on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi.
China’s proposal comes as diplomatic efforts intensify to contain the conflict and prevent further regional escalation.
Beijing has repeatedly called for dialogue and political solutions to regional disputes, while maintaining close relations with both Iran and other major countries involved in the wider Middle Eastern security landscape.
