Trump calls NATO and Europe ‘very disappointing’ over Iran war

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12. US President Donald Trump has criticised NATO and European countries over their response to the war with Iran, describing their support as “very disappointing in many ways”.

Speaking in Dublin, Trump said NATO had declined to assist the United States with security efforts related to the Strait of Hormuz.

“NATO didn’t want to help us with the Strait,” Trump said, while noting that the United States does not obtain oil directly from the waterway.

Trump also claimed that the conflict had demonstrated the superiority of American military equipment and said US forces had removed mines from the Strait of Hormuz.

“We took out every mine. There’s no mines out there,” he said.

His comments come amid continuing tensions surrounding the strategic waterway, through which a significant share of global energy supplies normally passes.
