BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 21. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has dismissed US President Donald Trump’s threat to launch what he described as the “most crushing economic operation ever” against Iran, arguing that Washington’s latest pressure campaign will fail.
Responding to Trump’s remarks, Araghchi said Iran had faced similar US policies in the past and that previous attempts to exert maximum economic pressure had not achieved Washington’s objectives.
“This repetitive film is also doomed to failure,” the Iranian foreign minister said.
Araghchi pointed to previous rounds of sanctions against Tehran, noting that 14 years ago Iran was threatened with what was described at the time as the most crippling sanctions in history.
According to Araghchi, those measures ultimately failed to force Iran to change its position.
The foreign minister portrayed the latest US threats as a continuation of a longstanding approach towards Tehran rather than a fundamentally new strategy.
“We’ve seen this movie before; the same old story, just with different bullies,” Araghchi said.
His comments come as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high and the Trump administration seeks to intensify economic pressure on Iran.
