BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 21.China has renewed its call for dialogue between the United States and Iran amid threats from Washington to impose additional sanctions on Tehran.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing opposes unilateral sanctions that it considers to lack a basis in international law or authorization from the United Nations Security Council.
In a statement posted on X, Lin warned that the use of military force and pressure tactics would only intensify tensions and produce an escalation that would serve no party’s interests.
China called on the parties involved to act responsibly and resolve their disputes through dialogue and negotiations rather than military or economic pressure.
Beijing’s remarks come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran and renewed US threats of sanctions against Iran.
China has repeatedly advocated a diplomatic approach to the confrontation, while opposing unilateral economic restrictions imposed outside the UN framework.
