BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 14, Qatar has condemned the attack targeting two United Arab Emirates oil tankers as they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a serious violation of international navigation safety and a threat to global energy supplies.
In a statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the incident as “a clear breach of international law” and warned that continued attacks of this nature represent a dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability.
“The continuation of such unacceptable attacks represents a dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability and undermines efforts to promote regional peace and stability,” the ministry said.
Qatar also called on Iran to immediately stop actions that could undermine regional security, avoid threatening the safety of international maritime routes and global energy supplies, and comply with international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817.
Earlier, the UAE Ministry of Defence said that one Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured after two Emirati oil tankers were hit by Iranian cruise missiles while passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The incident has increased concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s most important energy transit routes.
