BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 9, Oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has almost come to a standstill, according to Reuters, as tensions continue to rise in the strategic waterway.
The news agency reported that only two tankers passed through the strait during the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to analysis by maritime intelligence firm Kpler, one of the vessels was the crude oil supertanker Berg 1, which had loaded cargo at Iran’s Kharg Island and is under US sanctions.
The second vessel was the Marshall Islands-flagged chemical tanker Well Sail.
The sharp decline in tanker movement through the Strait of Hormuz has raised concerns over global energy supplies, as the waterway remains one of the world’s most important routes for oil and gas shipments.
