BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has held talks with senior United Nations officials on the situation in southern Lebanon and the future of UN peacekeeping operations, as the mission faces increasing operational challenges in the area.
TurkicWorld reports that according to a statement from the Lebanese presidency, Aoun met UNIFIL commander Major-General Diodato Abagnara and UN Special Coordinator Imran Riza. The discussions focused on what was described as “difficulties and harassments” affecting the movement of peacekeeping forces within their area of operations.
The talks come amid heightened tensions in southern Lebanon, where UNIFIL has long operated as a stabilizing presence along the border and continues to monitor security developments.
President Aoun also renewed his condolences for UNIFIL personnel killed while performing their duties and praised their continued efforts to maintain peace and stability in Lebanon.
The meeting highlights ongoing concerns over the security environment in southern Lebanon and the operational conditions faced by international peacekeepers in the region.
