BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 10. The United Kingdom and Bahrain have requested an urgent open meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the situation involving attacks between Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg is expected to brief the Council by video, while all 15 members of the Security Council are scheduled to speak. Yemen and Saudi Arabia have also requested permission to address the Council.
The meeting will be closely watched for signs of whether the Security Council can reach a common position on the latest developments.
A key question is whether Russia and China could link the Yemen-related issue to the broader conflict involving Iran, potentially preventing unified Security Council action.
The Council previously failed to reach consensus over the Strait of Hormuz in April, resulting in a deadlock.
No resolution has been submitted for a vote at the upcoming meeting.
