Palestinians caught between Israeli forces, settlers and Hamas: UN inquiry

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9. Palestinian civilians are increasingly trapped amid “mass atrocities” committed by Israeli forces, settlers, and the governance of Hamas, according to a UN-mandated investigation. The Independent International Commission of Inquiry reported that civilians across Gaza and the occupied West Bank face “systematic and deliberate” rights violations.

TurkicWorld reports that the commission, which previously concluded that Israel committed “genocide” during the Gaza conflict, emphasized that ordinary Palestinians are caught between structural violence by Israeli forces and what it described as Hamas’s “fear-based rule.” In the West Bank, where violence has escalated since Israel’s October 2023 offensive on Gaza, Palestinian civilians have also been increasingly targeted by attacks from Israeli settlers.

“Violence by settlers is the direct outcome of Israeli policies that support, enable and protect their actions,” commission chair Srinivasan Muralidhar said.
