BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has accused Israel of conducting thousands of military operations in Lebanon despite a ceasefire announced by the United States on April 16.
According to comments published by the prime minister’s office following a cabinet meeting, Israel carried out 3,491 air strikes, 407 controlled demolitions and six large-scale razing operations between April 17 and June 7.
TurkicWorld reports that Salam said the razing operations resulted in the destruction of entire villages in southern Lebanon.
The prime minister also warned that the latest escalation between Iran and Israel is worsening the humanitarian situation in Lebanon by triggering new waves of displacement.
According to Salam, the country is struggling to accommodate additional displaced families as major cities and regions have reached their capacity.
“Lebanon is striving to uphold the ceasefire, but the Iranian-Israeli escalation has created additional displacement waves,” he said, adding that Beirut, Sidon and other areas are facing severe pressure from the growing number of displaced people.
Since the conflict intensified on March 2, more than one million people — roughly one-fifth of Lebanon’s population — have reportedly been displaced by Israeli strikes and evacuation orders.
