BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has called on all parties to stop violations and avoid provocative actions that could further increase tensions in the country.
UNIFIL warned that continued instability is “not in anyone’s interest” and urged all actors to renew their commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The resolution, adopted in 2006 following the war between Israel and Hezbollah, called for a cessation of hostilities and established key security arrangements aimed at maintaining stability in southern Lebanon.
The UN peacekeeping mission stressed that actions capable of increasing tensions could lead to further violations and undermine efforts to preserve stability along the Israel-Lebanon border.
UNIFIL also said its peacekeepers remain fully committed to carrying out their mandate in southern Lebanon.
The mission continues to maintain a visible presence across the south through patrols and monitoring activities, liaison with relevant parties and support for humanitarian partners operating in the area.
The statement comes amid heightened concern over security conditions in Lebanon and renewed calls for all sides to comply with Resolution 1701 and prevent further escalation.
