TurkicWorld reports that Izadi argued that Tehran possesses a significant advantage through its geographical influence over the crucial maritime passage.
“The only thing that Iran has that is serious and Trump cannot do much about is the control of the Strait of Hormuz,” Izadi said.
According to him, if Washington were to violate a future agreement with Iran, as Tehran believes happened previously, the country could potentially create disruptions affecting the waterway.
“If the US violates a new agreement with Iran like last time, that is going to be the leverage that Iran has to make sure that the US government behaves properly,” he added.
The comments referenced the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union.
Under that deal, Iran agreed to reduce its uranium enrichment activities and committed not to pursue nuclear weapons development. In return, international sanctions were eased, allowing Tehran to resume broader oil and gas exports.
However, in 2018 then-US President Donald Trump withdrew from the agreement, a decision that significantly increased tensions between Washington and Tehran.Speaking to Al Jazeera,
