Hezbollah rejects roreign intervention on centenary of Lebanese constitution

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26. On the centenary of the Lebanese Constitution, Hezbollah issued a statement emphasizing the need for a “clear national consensus rejecting occupation and aggression” while stressing the Lebanese people's right to defend their country.

TurkicWorld reports that the group stated that Lebanon is facing “an important juncture in a highly sensitive internal and regional moment,” arguing that adherence to the Lebanese Constitution is now more necessary than ever.

Ratified on May 23, 1926, Lebanon’s Constitution remains the oldest constitution still in force in the Arab world. Hezbollah reaffirmed its support for an independent and sovereign Lebanese state while calling for the rejection of foreign intervention in the country’s affairs.

The statement also emphasized the need to move beyond “the era of mandates, high commissioners, and foreign tutelage,” saying that period had ended and would not return to Lebanon under any circumstances.

Hezbollah further stated that Lebanon’s diverse social and religious communities should not be regarded merely as a sectarian issue or temporary political demand, but rather as a “supreme constitutional issue.” The group also highlighted the significance of the Taif Agreement, which brought an end to Lebanon’s 15-year civil war.
