Uzbekistan hosts the 6th Working Party meeting on the accession to the WTO

Uza. Uzbekistan delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev held the 6th Working Party meeting on the accession to the WTO, in Geneva.
The event brought together representatives of 25 WTO member countries to study Uzbekistan’s foreign trade regime.

In addition to multilateral negotiations, bilateral talks with interested WTO members on access to foreign markets of goods and services took place at the meeting.

WTO Deputy Director-General Zhang Xiangchen stressed that the head of the Organization is optimistic about accelerating the process of Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization, especially after the President’s recent address to the Parliament on the need for accelerating negotiations on accession to the WTO.

A total of 25 WTO members and 1 observer welcomed Uzbekistan’s efforts to integrate into the multilateral trading system. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan highly appreciated measures taken by Uzbekistan, noting that the country’s accession to the WTO will play a positive role at the regional level.

It is known that for full membership in the WTO, Uzbekistan needs to complete the preparation of the report of the Working Group, conclude bilateral agreements with all interested members of the Organization on access to the market of goods and services, as well as bring the country’s legislation into line with WTO rules, which provide for several reforms in the economic liberalization.
