Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan Enter a New Stage of Cooperation in Urban Planning

On 17 August 2026, Deputy Chairmen of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Dovlatkhan Dovlatkhanov and Ilgar Isbatov, met with Azizkhon Shovkatov, Deputy Mayor of Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, who was visiting Baku.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for further developing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in the fields of urban planning and architecture. They explored opportunities to expand professional cooperation, exchange experience, and implement new joint initiatives in territorial planning, sustainable urban development, and the creation of a modern urban environment.

Particular attention was paid to the projects for the establishment of the “Uzbekistan Park” in Baku and the “Azerbaijan Park” in Tashkent, including the current status of their implementation and the next stages. It was noted that these projects, while symbolizing friendship, brotherhood and mutual respect between the two countries, will also create modern public and recreational spaces for residents and visitors of both capitals.

The meeting also highlighted the significance of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), held in Baku in May this year. It was emphasized that the participation of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Leaders’ Segment, held for the first time in the history of the Forum with the participation of heads of state and government, created additional opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan in the field of urban planning.
