BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 16. Türkiye has welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran, describing it as an important diplomatic milestone with the potential to reshape long-term security dynamics in the Middle East.
TurkicWorld reports that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made the remarks during a visit to Russia, speaking at a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Fidan said the Iran-US agreement should not be viewed as a temporary pause in tensions, but rather as a foundation for what he called a “structural and permanent security architecture” in the region.
He emphasized that keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for uninterrupted navigation is essential for both regional stability and global energy security, given its importance as a key transit route for global oil and gas supplies.
The Turkish foreign minister also warned against rhetoric that could undermine the diplomatic atmosphere, stressing the need to avoid statements or actions that could “poison the climate of peace.” He further cautioned against any attempts to sabotage the agreement, implicitly referring to regional actors that might oppose the deal.
Fidan additionally commented on ongoing regional conflicts, saying that Israeli military actions in Lebanon and Syria contribute to instability and broader efforts that risk further destabilizing the Middle East.
Türkiye’s position reflects broader regional interest in maintaining maritime security and ensuring that the agreement translates into long-term stability rather than short-term de-escalation.
