BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. The transition to a more equitable world order faces challenges, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the first plenary session of the XVI BRICS Plus summit in Kazan, TurkicWorld reports.
"This time the Russian presidency has invited Russia's closest neighbors, friendly countries with whom we are united by a common history of life in a single state," he said.
Putin noted that the leaders of the states showing interest in establishing a closer partnership with BRICS and even considering membership in the association in the future, and the countries currently leading the multilateral structures are also present here.
"That is, the states of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America are represented at the common table. According to the proposed agenda, we will consider the issues of the most concern to the world community. These include sustainable development, poverty eradication, adaptation to climate change, technology and knowledge exchange, and the fight against terrorism and cross-border crime. Naturally, we will pay special attention to the peaceful settlement of conflicts. Including, of course, we will seriously talk about the aggravated situation in the Middle East. It is extremely important for BRICS members to discuss all these topics with like-minded people from the countries of the Global South and East," the Russian president said.
He added that all BRICS states share similar aspirations, values, and a vision of a new democratic world order reflecting all cultural and civilizational diversity.
"And we are convinced that such a world order should be based on universal principles of respect for the legitimate interests and sovereign choice of countries and peoples, respect for international law, and a commitment to mutually beneficial, honest cooperation. The transition to a more just world order is not easy," he said.
