Kazakhstan sees growth in cargo transportation by all modes in 1H2024

The volume of cargo transportation by all modes of transport in Kazakhstan amounted to 496.8 million tons from January through June 2024, TurkicWorld reports.

The country's Bureau of National Statistics shows that the volume rose 4.8 percent over the same period last year.

At the same time, cargo turnover for the preceding period totaled 244.3 billion ton-kilometers, which is 1.8 percent less than the first half of 2023.

In addition, regionally, from January through June 2024, a decrease in cargo turnover was noted in Zhetysu (a decrease of 23.1 percent), North Kazakhstan (13.3 percent), East Kazakhstan (12.6 percent), Ulytau (11.5 percent), Abay (10.7 percent), Aktobe (8.1 percent), West Kazakhstan (7.7 percent), Karaganda (7.7 percent), Akmola (6.4 percent), Turkistan (6.4 percent), Kostanay (5.8 percent), Almaty (5.4 percent), Mangystau (1.2 percent), and Kyzylorda (0.5 percent).

To date, there are a total of 13 international transport corridors up and running in Kazakhstan, which consist of 5 railways and 8 roads.

Additionally, Kazakhstan's transport and logistics infrastructure has received an estimated $30 billion in investment over the past decade.

Moreover, in the next five years, Kazakhstan will need to cough up at least 40 billion euros to grease the wheels and make major transportation infrastructure projects a reality.
