ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 3. Kazakhstan and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) have discussed ratification of the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Trans-Asian Railway Network, TurkicWorld reports.
A discussion on this topic took place between the Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan, Marat Karabayev, and the leadership of ESCAP.
The parties noted that the agreement is aimed at developing railway routes of international importance and increasing the volume of international passenger and cargo transportation.
In addition, the Minister of Transport and UN Under-Secretary-General/ESCAP Executive Secretary Armida Alisjahbana agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the field of transport and logistics.
To note, over 20 countries are participants in the Trans-Asian Railways, including China, India, Iran, South Korea, Russia, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, and others.
To date, 13 international transport corridors have been formed and are in operation in Kazakhstan, including 5 railways and 8 roads.
Furthermore, about $30 billion has been invested in the transport and logistics infrastructure of Kazakhstan over the past 10 years.
Moreover, in the next five years, at least 40 billion euros will be needed to implement major infrastructure projects in the field of transportation in Kazakhstan.
