BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 28. Five men have been arrested following reports of suspicious vehicles near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, according to London’s Metropolitan Police.
The arrests came after local residents contacted emergency services to report “suspicious vehicles which appeared to be travelling towards the airbase”, the police said.
Counterterrorism police are leading the investigation into the incident near the Royal Air Force base.
RAF Fairford was used by the US military during its attack on Iran, with long-range bombers deployed from the airbase.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham described the incident as “deeply concerning” and said the government would take “every step necessary” to protect the public.
Authorities have not provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the arrests or the nature of the suspected incident.
