BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 25. UN High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Saleh has warned that more people are crossing borders as the conflict in Yemen intensifies, with thousands of civilians fleeing to Djibouti and other destinations.
Speaking during a briefing to the United Nations Security Council, Saleh said tens of thousands of people have already been displaced following the recent escalation in Yemen.
The UN refugee agency has declared a “Level 1” emergency response for Yemen, Djibouti and Somalia due to the growing displacement and humanitarian needs linked to the conflict.
Saleh also renewed the UN’s call for the release of UN staff members and other humanitarian workers who remain detained by the Houthi movement.
The worsening situation in Yemen has increased concerns over regional stability and humanitarian conditions, as international organizations continue efforts to provide assistance to affected communities.
